About the Post-Professional Doctor of Physical Therapy Program

If you already have a degree in physical therapy and want to advance your career and skills by earning a doctorate, WesternU’s Post–Professional Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program gives you a convenient and efficient way to earn your DPT degree. By offering credit for coursework already completed and having web-based classes, you can update your skills and credentials on our Pomona, California Campus while maintaining your current job and family commitments.

Our Post–Professional DPT program provides courses that are not part of certificate, bachelor, or master’s degree curricula. To meet the busy schedules of working therapists, the program is offered completely online. Our program fills the gap between the knowledge and skills learned in a certificate, bachelors, or master’s degree program to that of today’s elevated entry-level doctoral degree. This aligns to the 2020 vision set forth by the American Physical Therapy Association that by 2020, “physical therapy will be provided by physical therapists who are doctors of physical therapy, recognized by consumers and other health care professionals as the practitioners of choice to whom consumers have direct access for the diagnosis of, interventions for, and prevention of impairments, functional limitations, and disabilities related to movement, function, and health.”
