Message Regarding the Department of Education
At this time, the Department of Education (ED) is experiencing technical issues affecting the processing of federal student loans. As a result, some federal loans certified by schools on or after July 1 are currently being rejected by the Department of Education’s processing system. This issue is affecting other colleges and universities across the country and is not specific to Western University of Health Sciences.
Because the issue is occurring within the Department of Education’s system, we are currently unable to complete the processing of affected loans until additional guidance, or a system update is provided. Please know that our office is actively monitoring the situation and we are currently exploring any available alternatives to help process students’ loans as quickly as possible.
Unless the Financial Aid Office has reached out to you directly, at this time, no action is required on your part. As soon as the Department of Education (ED) resolves the issue or provides an approved solution, we will have the ability to continue processing your federal loan(s) and the disbursement process. We will also keep you informed if any additional information or action is needed from you.
Also, as a result of the significant changes to the federal student loan program enacted by the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, guidance from the Department of Education has been and, we anticipate, will continue to be updated as related to the implementation of such changes. We encourage students to refer to federal governmental sources for official guidance. See studentaid.gov for more information.
We understand that many students rely on their financial aid to help cover educational and living expenses, and we sincerely apologize for the delay. We are referring students to use the following link if they are wanting to apply for and utilize private loans for the time being: https://www.elmselect.com/v4/school/1291/program-select
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through this current issue. If you have any additional questions and/or concerns, please contact Student Financial Services.
