Welcome from the MSPAS program director

Welcome to the Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies Program at Western University of Health Sciences!
WesternU holds a very special place in my heart. As a proud graduate of this program, I know firsthand the transformative experience of becoming a physician associate. I once sat in the same classrooms, navigated the same demanding curriculum, and shared many of the same aspirations as the students we welcome today. Returning to serve as an educator and now having the privilege of leading this program is both a tremendous honor and a responsibility, I hold close to my heart.
My journey as a physician associate, clinician, and educator has shaped my belief that exceptional PA education goes beyond acquiring medical knowledge and clinical skills. It is about developing the confidence to think critically, the humility to recognize what we do not know, the courage to advocate for our patients, and the compassion to see the person behind every diagnosis.
At WesternU, we are committed to preparing knowledgeable, clinically competent, compassionate, and adaptable physician assistants who are ready to meet the evolving needs of healthcare. Our curriculum is intentionally designed to connect foundational medical sciences with clinical reasoning, hands-on experiences, and meaningful opportunities for professional growth. We believe that academic excellence and humanism are not separate ideals, but essential qualities that must develop together.
As an educator and program leader, I believe deeply in the importance of a student-centered learning environment. PA education is rigorous, and the journey will undoubtedly challenge our students in ways they may not have anticipated. However, I also believe that students thrive when high expectations are paired with meaningful mentorship, encouragement, and a genuine commitment to their success. Our dedicated faculty and staff work tirelessly to create an environment where students feel supported, challenged, respected, and empowered to grow into the professionals they aspire to become.
Having continued to practice clinically throughout my career in PA education, I am reminded every day of the tremendous responsibility and privilege that comes with caring for patients. Healthcare is constantly evolving, but the importance of listening, demonstrating empathy, working collaboratively, and treating every individual with dignity remains unchanged. These are the values we strive to model and instill in every future PA who walks through our doors.
To our current and incoming students, I encourage you to embrace this journey with curiosity, resilience, and an open mind. Challenge yourselves, learn from your experiences, support one another, and never lose sight of the reasons you chose this profession. You will leave this program with far more than a degree. You will carry the knowledge, experiences, relationships, and values that will shape the clinicians and leaders you become.
To our prospective students, I invite you to explore what makes WesternU special. We are a community of educators, clinicians, and learners who believe in the power of humanistic healthcare and the difference that one compassionate, well-prepared PA can make in the lives of patients and communities.
As Program Director, I am proud of our program’s legacy, deeply committed to the success of our students, and excited about the future we will continue to build together.
Welcome to WesternU, where we strive not only to educate exceptional physician associates, but to inspire exceptional human beings.
Warm regards,
