Prof. Lincoln Edwards obtained the B.Sc. in Chemistry (Special, Hons.) from the University of the West Indies at Mona, in Jamaica, and later completed a Ph.D. in Pharmacology at Loma Linda University (LLU), followed by a 3-year Postdoctoral Fellowship at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. On completion, he returned to LLU as an Assistant Professor in the School of Medicine and subsequently accepted a faculty position in the School of Dentistry at LLU while pursuing and eventually completing his D.D.S degree. After leaving LLU, Prof. Edwards joined the Faculty at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center School of Dentistry at Houston and eventually returned to Jamaica where he served as the 24th President of Northern Caribbean University located in Mandeville. On June 1, 2026, he started his tenure as Associate Dean for Research and Biomedical Sciences in the College of Dental Medicine at Western University of Health Sciences.
Prof. Edwards has spent many years studying diabetes, with an emphasis on the role of imidazoline compounds as therapeutic agents to treat diabetes and hypertension. His lab has also explored the role of the parotid-pancreatic axis in type 2 diabetes, and his research has been funded by the National Institute of Diabetes Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK). He has received several outstanding awards in recognition of his contribution, including the NIDDK Basic Science Research Award. Prof. Edwards has served as a grant reviewer for the American Heart Association Western States Affiliate and was invited by the National Institutes of Health to be a part of their review panel for the Early Career Awards. Prof. Edwards has served as Secretary, Chair-elect and Chair of the American Dental Education Association Sections on Oral Diagnosis and Oral Medicine, as well as Pharmacology and Therapeutics. He enjoys serving as a mentor for several faculty, postdoctoral fellows, graduate, undergraduate and high school students. Prof. Edwards enjoys taking dental students to provide free dental care to underserved populations overseas and in the United States.He is married to his high school sweetheart Sandra Taylor, and together they have three lovely children, Alex, Ross-Andre and Alexa.
