Campus Security

President’s Office

September 15, 2023

Dear WesternU Community,

As you may know, the security of our WesternU community and family is my top priority!

Immense gratitude to our WesternU community for working together to ensure our campus security.

A very special heartfelt “thank you” to our WesternU Security Teams, and to the Institutional Shared Services leadership, for your responsiveness, and working so diligently, 24/7, to protect us.

In light of the recent security breaches on our Pomona campus, I have already convened an emergency meeting with our Institutional Shared Services leadership team.

I wanted to provide you with an update on the key measures currently underway to meet the immediate and long-term campus needs.

Immediate Measures:

  • Increased Guard Presence: We are exploring options to bolster our security personnel with a heightened guard presence. This may include the consideration of retired law enforcement officers who can lend their expertise to our security efforts.
  • Enhanced Campus Lighting: To immediately improve safety, we will conduct a thorough inventory of campus lighting, with a focus on the parking garage, lots, and the esplanade. Any areas requiring improved lighting will be addressed promptly.

Comprehensive Security Assessment:

  • We are in the process of enlisting an external entity with expertise in security to conduct a thorough assessment of our open campus. Their insights and recommendations will play a pivotal role in shaping our long-term strategy.

Long-Term Security Strategy:

  • Guard Optimization: Ensuring our security personnel are strategically deployed and well-trained.
  • Video Surveillance: Implementing comprehensive surveillance systems to monitor key areas.
  • Entry Point Hardening: Strengthening access control and security at key entry points.
  • Campus Lighting Enhancement: As a vital part of our long-term strategy, we will comprehensively address lighting across campus to create a well-lit environment that enhances safety.

Thank you!

As always, please know that your highly valued input is always appreciated. Any real-time information to our assist our Security Teams is always appreciated.
