There is a national effort in the United States to standardize the focus of IPE curricula and programs. The Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) is a national organization that has identified and defined competency domains and sub-competencies that are integral to interprofessional practice. IPEC represents 21 national health professions associations, including all health professions programs at WesternU.<\/span><\/p>\n

The learning objectives for all IPE courses are based on the IPEC competency framework, with the addition of One Health.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

These competency domains are:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Values\/Ethics for Interprofessional Practice <\/span><\/b>\u2013 Work with individuals of other professions to maintain a climate of mutual respect and shared values.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Roles\/Responsibilities – <\/span><\/b>Use the knowledge of one\u2019s own role and those of other professions to appropriately assess and address the health care needs of patients and to promote and advance the health of populations.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Interprofessional Communication – <\/span><\/b>Communicate with patients, families, communities, and professionals in health and other fields in a responsive and responsible manner that supports a team approach to the promotion and maintenance of health and the prevention and treatment of disease.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Teams and Teamwork – <\/span><\/b>Apply relationship-building values and the principles of team dynamics to perform effectively in different team roles to plan, deliver, and evaluate patient\/population centered care and population health programs and policies that are safe, timely, efficient, effective, and equitable.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
