Welcome to the Western University of Health Sciences Physician Assistant Program.<\/p>\n

I’ll start with something personal, because it explains why this role means so much to me. In 2002, I graduated from this program as a member of the first master’s-level cohort WesternU ever enrolled. I sat in those classrooms and felt the same mix of exhilaration and terror many of you are feeling right now. For the past nineteen years, I’ve been on the other side of the lectern here as a member of the faculty. This program shaped me as a clinician, and I’ve spent most of my career helping it shape others.<\/p>\n

Our mission is to cultivate exceptional physician assistants who embody excellence in healthcare, compassion in patient care, and leadership in their communities. That was true when I was a student, and it is true today. I step into this role with real confidence in the people who sustain it \u2014 a devoted team of educators, clinicians, and scholars committed to evidence-based practice, interprofessional collaboration, and lifelong learning. Our standards don’t change with our leadership, and neither does our commitment to you.<\/p>\n

This year, the College of Health Sciences invites us to Lead with Purpose and to Serve with Heart and Humanism. These aren’t slogans to us; they describe the work. To lead with purpose is to understand why before how \u2014 to think critically, practice ethically, and advocate for patients whose voices too often go unheard. Leadership in this profession rarely announces itself; it shows up quietly, in the decision to ask one more question. To serve with heart and humanism is to remember that behind every differential diagnosis is a person with a history, a family, and a fear. That tradition remains the standard against which we measure our curriculum, our clinical training, and ourselves.<\/p>\n

To our incoming class: you have earned your place here. The months ahead will ask a great deal of you, and there will be days you wonder whether you’re equal to it. You are \u2014 and you won’t walk that road alone. The classmates beside you will become colleagues and friends for the rest of your career. Mine still are.<\/p>\n

To prospective students: explore our website, meet our faculty, and ask us hard questions about the career you want to build. If you want a program that will hold you to a demanding standard while never losing sight of the humanity at the center of medicine, I hope you’ll consider joining us. My door is open.<\/p>\n

Together, we are shaping the future of healthcare \u2014 one exceptional PA at a time.<\/p>\n
