Generally, the Policy Owner reports directly or indirectly to the Senior Administrator of the Responsible Department. The Policy Owner is responsible for drafting the policy, consulting subject matter experts, and monitors the development and implementation of the policy from the time it is enacted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"noSpacingAbove spacingBelow\" data-text-type=\"withSpacing\"><span class=\"fontSizeMediumPlus\">The Policy Owner may designate another individual to draft the policy, but they are ultimately responsible for the policy content, it\u2019s development and implementation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"fontSizeMediumPlus\"><strong>Notify the\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><a href=\"mailto:policy@westernu.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-interception=\"off\"><span class=\"fontSizeMediumPlus\"><strong>policy@westernu.edu<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span class=\"fontSizeMediumPlus\"><strong>\u00a0as soon as you begin the policy process! We are here to help facilitate the process.\u200b<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"fontSizeLarge\"><strong>During this predevelopment phase, the Policy Owner should:\u200b<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"customListStyle\">\n<li data-list-item-id=\"ec3459165b86098b6c65669391e262964\"><span class=\"fontSizeMediumPlus\">Consult with the UPO and review existing WesternU policies to confirm necessity.\u200b<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e2d7c9d86247345bc847e7019cb511a79\"><span class=\"fontSizeMediumPlus\">Assess policy gaps\/needs and review policies from benchmark institutions.\u200b<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e8b78c89715b81f277219b3d8eb2d8dd6\"><span class=\"fontSizeMediumPlus\">Draft new or revised policy.\u200b<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"efd8b435fd8054567ce975ce1cdf74eb8\"><span class=\"fontSizeMediumPlus\">Notify the Senior Administrator for the Responsible Department that the policy will be under development.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e226adc83ef173ce43abf401abc55952f\">\n<p class=\"noSpacingAbove spacingBelow\" data-text-type=\"withSpacing\"><span class=\"fontSizeMediumPlus\">It is highly recommended that you involve the appropriate Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) during the development phase as this can help speed up the process during the review and approval phases.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"noSpacingAbove spacingBelow\" data-text-type=\"withSpacing\"><span class=\"fontSizeMediumPlus\"><strong>Once the new or revised policy draft is ready for review<\/strong>, please submit to\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"mailto:policy@westernu.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-interception=\"off\"><span class=\"fontSizeMediumPlus\">policy@westernu.edu<\/span><\/a><span class=\"fontSizeMediumPlus\">.
